A compressed air system's efficiency is not a fixed property; it is a perishable one. Filters load, separators saturate, coolers foul, drains stick and leaks regrow, and each adds a little to the energy bill without tripping a single alarm. A system left alone drifts upward by percent after percent until, within a couple of years, it costs 20% more than it should for the same air. Maintenance is where that drift is caught, and on compressed air it pays better than almost any other plant-room activity.
