Modern glass is engineered with microscopically thin coatings that transform its thermal behaviour without you being able to see them. The right coating can halve a window's heat loss or block unwanted solar heat while keeping the view clear, and coatings are the single biggest reason a modern window outperforms an old one of the same thickness. This lesson covers the two coating families, how to match them to climate and orientation, and how they compare with shading.
