Sunlight entering through glazing is free heat in winter and an unwanted load in summer, and the same window can be an asset or a liability depending on which season and which elevation you are looking at. Managing solar gain is about capturing it when it helps and rejecting it when it does not, and it is one of the few fabric decisions where the right answer genuinely differs from one face of the building to the next. This lesson covers the g-value, why orientation changes everything, and the shading strategies that tune each facade.
