Lighting accounts for 15 to 40% of electricity use in many commercial buildings, and it is one of the easiest loads to cut, because the technology has improved so dramatically. Managing it well starts with understanding how light is measured and how efficiently it is produced, since the whole business case rests on getting the right amount of light to the task for the least electricity. This lesson covers the three quantities that matter, the light levels tasks actually need, and the efficacy gap that makes the LED case so strong.

In this lesson
