A variable-speed drive is power electronics, not a motor accessory, and installing one changes the electrical character of everything around it. Most disappointing drive projects fail not on the energy arithmetic but on installation details: harmonics upsetting neighbours, cable-induced voltage spikes eating motor insulation, bearings pitted by stray currents, or commissioning that left the promised control strategy switched off.
