Cooling is where thermal storage often delivers its strongest economic case. By making and storing coolth when conditions are favourable, buildings cut both their energy cost and the size of their cooling plant, and the plant-downsizing saving alone can justify the store. This lesson covers why cooling storage pays, ice and chilled-water storage, the chiller-downsizing bonus, the efficiency gain from night operation, and where it fits best.
